ACA Reporting Forms for 2016

While HR and benefit administration professionals are preparing for open enrollment, IRS reporting is just around the corner. We know it feels like you just finished filing for 2015, so we’re here to help. If you’re a benefitexpress client, you won’t have to worry about filing – we rocked reporting last year. Here is what you need to know – the IRS has issued their final ACA reporting forms for 2016. The 1094-B, 1094-C, 1095-B, and 1095-C are all available on the IRS’ website. In addition, instructions have been posted on the website for filling out each of the B and C forms. If you’re unsure of which code to use on form 1095-C, you can check out our infographic here. Here are the dates you need to know for filing:

  • December 31, 2016: End of calendar year for reporting
  • January 31, 2017: Form 1095-C must be furnished to individual participants on paper by mail or hand delivered, unless the employee has explicitly consented to receive the statement electronically
  • February 28, 2017: 1094-C and 1095-C forms filing due for employers filing on paper
  • March 31, 2017: 1094-C and 1095-C forms filing due for employers filing online

Please note the IRS will not grant automatic extensions this year as they did for 2015 filing. Extensions may be granted by completing Form 8809 on or before the due date and submitting on paper or through the FIRE system.
